THE
AUTUMN LUNCH WAS HELD ON FRIDAY THE 3RD OF DECEMBER 2010 IN
THE WESTBURY HOTEL, GRAFTON STREET.
DESPITE THE DIFFICULT WEATHER CONDITIONS, THERE WAS A VERY GOOD
TURN OUT AND AN ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON WAS HAD BY ALL.
THANKS TO LORCAN CRANITCH CLASS OF 1977, WHO WAS OUR GUEST SPEAKER
ON THE DAY, AND ALSO TO BRENDAN MCCAULEY FROM THE COLLEGE WHO
GAVE A VERY GOOD UPDATE ON WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE COLLEGE. |

COLLEGE ANTHEM
A request was sent to the Union to find out if anyone knew
the lyrics (and tune) to the College Anthem, (and before
you all start, “Come out my lads….” is
not the one. Now I did not know that a College Anthem existed,
but following a phone call to Fr. Míceál O’Neill,
I am now much wiser. Not only did he know the words, but
he sang it down the phone to me whilst stuck at traffic
lights in Cork City. What a privileged life I lead!!
Anyway, in the 1960’s, Mr. Leo Maguire (remember him?....”When
creation was begun……”) authored the anthem
and it was sung by the boys attending the college during
that time, but it sadly died out for some unknown reason.
For those who are interested in reviving it, the words are
written below. If you want the tune, you can phone Fr. Míceál
yourself!
“Terenure, Terenure,
Yours is a fame that shall endure,
Ever our hearts filled with love, warm and pure,
Will turn to Terenure.
Proud in our colours, black, purple and white,
Ready when needed to fight the good fight,
Through light dark and shadow,
Everyone shining bright,
Our College, Terenure.”
